Head of Femur is the willfully weird orchestral pop brainchild of pop auteurs Mike Elsener and former Bright Eyes drummer Matt Focht. You all know and love them. This show is their CD Release. And for all you indie snobs with a shadowy Dave Matthews Band-loving past, Oakland’s The Heavenly States delivers equal parts patchouli-soaked violin and Superchunk-worthy melodies. They may wear their pulsating hearts on their sleeves, but I�ll take earnest power-pop liberalism over bored mall-punk any day. Rounding out the bill is Iowa’s Poison Control Center. They’ve been hanging from chandeliers and doing somersaults around the country for the last six years. The Poison Control Center’s songs continue being spastic psych-pop vignettes that fill minds with images and ideas, as their live shows usually end with a massive pig-pile of band members and spectators.
