Malpais was formed in 2007 by Greg Loftis once he got back to Omaha from his travels around the globe. His zest for exploring brought him to a small beach in Central America that inspired the ironic name. He returned to his midwestern home and began singing with long-time friend/partner in crime, Joshua Hendricksen. They put together a band with Dave & Luke Backhaus, Phil Reno, Scott Evans – and got right to work. In the short life of the group (about six months) they have played around with Cursive, Blue October, Say Anything, The Narrator, Little Brazil, and Ludo to name a few. The style ranges from indie rock to shoe gazer/dream pop – to straight R.E.M style arena alt. rock. Interesting and original, the band is very much at home in front of huge crowds and intimate settings alike. Their debut album was recorded at ARC studios (Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis’s) in Omaha with recording guru A.J. Mogis. Look for it early spring 2008.
