Indietronic dance rock band, State Disco, was conceived in a dream about a euro-realm where people rave at government-sponsored dance parties. Get lost in driving, urgent beats, melodic synth and guitar, and soaring vocals. A fresh, danceable sound and energetic live show are quickly earning State Disco recognition as one of Omaha’s most exciting new bands. Led by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Cody Rathman, the four-piece is rounded out by Jay NeSmith (keys, vocals), Nate Fowler (drums) and Jared Bakewell (bass, vocals).
For their debut record, State Disco enlisted producer Graham Ulicny of The Faint and set up shop in The Faint’s Enamel Studio. The title “Going to Sleep is Giving Up” references the struggle of quieting a creative mind late into the night. Lyrics explore themes from love lost/found to social oppression, all layered over a driving kick drum and lush synths. The result is an 80s-inspired, danceable romp through the bands shared reverie.
Joining State Disco for their record release party are Twinsmith (Saddle Creek Records) and The Kickback (Jullian Records) from Chicago.
