The OG’s & WannaBe’s of Comedy & Music

One of Omaha’s most popular local shows returns to The Waiting Room with “The OG’s & WannaBe’s of Comedy & Music,” on Tuesday, Nov. 18. This show features some of Omaha’s best comics and musicians along with some of the up-and-comers on the scene. This unique show has sold out The Funny Bone and packed Bushwhackers.   The solo musicians are EMMA COLEMAN, a brand new singer-guitarist in Omaha (and her uncle opened for REO SPEEDWAGON!), and WILLA LUCILLE, a graceful folk musician with jazz influences who has toured the West Coast.    The bands include CHRONIC ECHOES (David Carrasco, Gustavo Barrera, Andy Santacruz), a newer alternative rock cover band with some original music. And rounding out the music is NEXT WEDNESDAY (Est3lla, Nelyyy, Lewis, Madski, Smokeyy), a new group playing a wide spectrum of rock covers.   The comedy side will feature STEVEN NELSON (yes, the boxer), JOJO MARIE with Host JIM SHEIL and other comics to be added. Please check the Host’s social media for line-up updates.

Lucero

Celebrating 20 years of “Nobody’s Darlings”, Lucero will play the album in its entirety followed by a set of songs from the band’s catalog. It would be difficult to find a band that is more self-aware than longtime touring band Lucero. Since forming in Memphis in the late 90’s, Lucero’s base musical hallmarks have remained similar to the band’s initial sound established with their first record The Attic Tapes. In the history of their expansive discography, Lucero has evolved and embraced everything from southern rock to Stax-inspired Memphis soul, whilst simultaneously maintaining their distinctive sonic foundations. Years later, dedicated fans of the group still flock to hear the band’s punchy driving rhythms, punk-rooted guitar licks, and lyrics that evoke the whiskey drenched sentimentality of Americana singer-songwriters.

No Resolve

Award-winning active rockers NO RESOLVE covered a potent single for the 2021 ongoing pandemic that offers solace for anyone struggling with hard times. NO RESOLVE signed a 2020 multi-album deal with Noise Machine with “Never Back Down” as the first release. Grammy-nominated, platinum-selling producers B.J. Perry and John Pregler head the label. Their first full-length, Unity, dropped in 2017 with the hot singles “Love Me To Death” and “What You Deserve.” Unity debuted at #45 on the iTunes Rock chart; #10 on Billboard’s Heatseeker chart and was highlighted on Amazon’s Hot New Releases. Expect NO RESOLVE’S anticipated new music in 2022.

SHLUMP

THIS PERFORMANCE IS AGES 18+  Michael Petzel aka Shlump grew up in California’s Bay Area, learning the guitar at age 9 and falling in love with music at first through the energy of metal and punk. Developing a taste for electronic music in high school via Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, and Warp Records, he began to jump into music production, combining drum loops with recordings of his guitar. After being blown away the sub bass in his intro to dubstep, Coki and Cluekid’s “Sensi Dub”, and experiencing his first west coast electronic music festivals, Michael’s love for bass music bloomed and he began to to develop his signature sounds as he dedicated himself to his music career. Infusing elements of classic dubstep with west coast flavor with otherwordly sound design, Shlump has pioneered his unique “Alien Bass” sound, creating a vibrant galaxy of bass filled with forward thinking nuance and massive waves of low end. His live sets take audiences across the continent on a psychedelic spaceship ride through Shlump’s universe, visiting high energy devastating supernovas of bass and voyaging into depeer realms filled with the cosmic twinkle of sonic stardust.  Shlump has abducted the ears of a wide range of electronic music fans with releases on Wakaan, Deadbeats, Circus Records, Deep Dark & Dangerous, along with collaborations with and remixes for artists such as Liquid Stranger, LSDream, and Doctor P. He has showcased his Alien Bass sound at festival stages such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Shambhala, Bass Canyon, and many more.  While at home, Shlump enjoys skateboarding, hiking, and spending time with his kittens and family In between exploring the auditory mysteries of outer space.

Gasoline Lollipops

Gasoline Lollipops have been genre-benders and boundary-breakers, fusing the ferocity of punk-injected rock and roll with the rawness of folk music, the story-telling of country, and the soul of roadhouse R&B. Front man, Clay Rose was raised between an outlaw, truck-driving father in the mountains of Colorado and a country song-writing mama in the sticks outside of Nashville, Tennessee. Clay’s penchant for open roads and trouble making are the backbone of the Gas Pops’ sound. The rest of the band consists of Don Ambory, Scott Coulter, “Bad” Brad Morse, and Kevin Matthews who all come equipped with music degrees from Chicago, Boston, Jacksonville, and Denver, respectively. They each add flavors of their own background and heritage, further diversifying the band’s signature sound. Over the course of six albums, Gasoline Lollipops have explored the far corners of amplified American roots music. They’ve been genre-benders and boundary-breakers, fusing the ferocity of punk-injected rock & roll with the rawness of folk music, the storytelling of country, and the soul of roadhouse R&B. On Kill the Architect, they team up with longtime Los Lobos member Steve Berlin to distill that ever-evolving sound into something signature and distinct. Partially inspired by frontman Clay Rose’s compositions for a modern ballet based upon the tale of Samson and Delilah, Kill the Architect tackles big themes — including connection, balance, identity, and the search for one’s true self — with an ever bigger sound, veering from heavy-hitting rock anthems to lighter, country-influenced folksongs. Produced by Berlin during a series of live-in-the-studio performances and brought to life by a band of hard-touring, finger-bleeding road warriors, Kill the Architect captures a band firing on all cylinders with their tank filled to the brim, and their wheels pointing toward a horizon of their own making.

Ratboys

Ratboys present a momentous new single, “Light Night Mountains All That,” and announce a North American tour. This is the band’s first new music, and their first with New West Records, since The Window, one of the most-praised albums of 2023. The Window catapulted the band from being beloved to “feverishly fixated upon” (Stereogum), and “Light Night Mountains All That” seizes that attention and doesn’t let it look away. The Window received a wealth of critical praise from the likes of The New York Times, NPR Music, Rolling Stone, Billboard, Stereogum, and Uproxx, while Pitchfork called it “a level-up record” for the band. “Light Night Mountains All That” is singer/guitarist Julia Steiner’s most thrilling vocal take yet, bolstered by a powerhouse performance by guitarist Dave Sagan, drummer Marcus Nuccio, bassist Sean Neumann, and piano by track co-producer Chris Walla. The track, deemed their “wormhole jam” by Steiner, is driven by an unorthodox time structure, exhilarating instrumentation, and the flare of extraterrestrial guitar bloops. In early 2026, Ratboys will perform across North America. As Paste praises, Ratboys have “a live chemistry that remains unparalleled and irreplaceable.”
